It’s been forever since I have drawn anything, so I forced myself to sit at my desk all day watching Vice documentaries and getting ink everywhere. Feeling refreshed.

I’m pulling an all-nighter in the studio tonight I think. I’m starting 2 drawings tonight that I hope to get mostly done, but I am perhaps (most definitely) aiming too high. Regardless, this is my studio space at the moment! Things are in the works! I also have news for you all soon in regards to prints!

Found this on my computer from a couple months ago. This was a drawing I based my zine (:Martyr) on, and a mini poster was folded in between the last pages.

Detail of the first piece I’ve started this school year! How many hours I’ve spent in front of this drawing already I have no idea but I don’t think I could ever get tired of it!

I realize it’s been the longest time since I’ve posted! It has been crazy and I’m just settling into living in Florence, and am at last getting into the swing of things.
These last couple days (after a brief visit to Germany for dOCUMENTA(13)!) I have been in the studio all day working on a big drawing for my first project.

Here’s a lo-quality cell phone picture of my own space in the studio, which I share with 4 other people. In total there are 27 of us working in a bunch of studios all connected. It’s a great atmosphere to have so much room and to feed from eachother artistically, as well as it’s been awesome getting to know these wonderful people in such an intimate environment. Also can’t complain that I’ve never had this much space to work in at OCADU, or anywhere else really.
As soon as work is getting done, I will be sharing it with you all!

Italy is such an inspiring place, I’m in love.

So my very talented friend David Fischer writes pop songs and he just compiled a 10 track mix tape of some of his tunes as a free download! He kindly asked me to use one of my illustrations from the Sharp Like Knives triptych as the cover, which comes along with the download. Thought I would share this with you all, this dude works hard and I’m always happy to boost deserving artists from my hometown.  Illustration by myself, font by  Alexander Westgate, beats by DCF.

Because I never did get around to posting about

the fact that I got accepted to OCADU’s Off-Campus Florence Program I thought I finally should!
Along with a bit less than 30 people from various programs at OCADU I’ll be moving to Florence, Italy come September! I already have an apartment lined up for the 8 months that is the entire school semester, and 3 lovely roommates I’ll be able to make art with. The Florence program is good for it’s collaborative element, as we’re encouraged to work with eachother often across disciplines, as well as it’s freedom and the fact that a lot of the work is self-directed. We have a couple hours of art history a week, which will mostly consist of walking around the city with a teacher/guide and seeing it UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL!  The rest is working in the OCAD studio, which apparently is right around the Piazza del Duomo so I’ll be right in the heart of it.

I’m already so inspired by the architechture and history and all of the art that has come out of Italy to date (not to mention Northern Italian armour!) so i can’t imagine a better place to focus on art making for such a substantial amount of time. I CAN BARELY CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT to go and share with you all the things I’m going to make. The OCADU studio does not have any printmaking facilities so I will mostly focus on drawing, but I am going to try to get in to some local printshops the best I can.

So until my departure on August 31st, I will be trying my best to sell some things on my Etsy, (sorry it’s been so neglected) to fundraise, and I plan on continuing to sell some things when I’m in Europe. Should be good!

[By the way, if any of you are familiar with Florence or Italy, feel free to send me some secret insider info on the city! Can’t wait to explore.]

LOVE YOU ALL
