"Ethnosphere" Rebecca Ladds, 2011.
Just need to add some watercolour! Almost finished. I’ll post details if you guys want to see any of the women closer. I’m having so much fun with this one.

“In Wildness is the Preservation of the World”
Wow I submitted this months ago, guess I should include it on this blog.
"Soft Anatomy [Study 3]" Rebecca Ladds, 2011.
can you post a pic of your self?
Just this once because I’m drawing anyway. and wanted to show you guys the progress. I seem to be letting ‘Ethnosphere’ get a little edgy!
BUT if you want to see mass amounts of vain pictures of myself, you’ll probably be satisfied with following my personal tumblr HERE. This blog is for my art not my face!
"Chameleon Skull" Rebecca Ladds, 2011. Pine wood.
This still isnt finished ( I plan on using woodstain and mass amounts of lacquer) but this is the condition in which it was critiqued today in form and structure class.
About 40 hours of work. It’s probably about 2ft long, and 1 ft wide.
It’s a good thing THE JAW FELL OFF AND SNAPPED INTO 7 PIECES after the critique when I was going back into the woodshop to fix a crack in it.
I’ll spend probably about 20 more hours on it, twice as much to try and salvage the jaw again.
Either way, I’m very happy with the result. My first attempt at ever doing this kind of woodwork. Plus it looks pretty badass mounted on the wall.
Drawing for Nature and Culture class.
"Ethnosphere" 2011. I’m purposely juxtaposing cultural adornments on women, a Virgin Mary style woman with neck coils? Yeah.
“Now, together the myriad cultures of the world make up a web of spiritual life and cultural life that envelops the planet, and is as important to the well-being of the planet as indeed is the biological web of life that you know as a biosphere. And you might think of this cultural web of life as being an ethnosphere and you might define the ethnosphere as being the sum total of all thoughts and dreams, myths, ideas, inspirations, intuitions brought into being by the human imagination since the dawn of consciousness. The ethnosphere is humanity’s great legacy. It’s the symbol of all that we are and all that we can be as an astonishingly inquisitive species." - Wade Davis.
It’s far from complete but I needed to post it because it’s today:
Happy Women’s Day!
“Osteology” Rebecca Ladds, 2011. Three-colour relief print.
All done! Colours are hard to see. So done with this one. Relief remains my least favourite application.
So this is the result of a sleepless night, the sun coming up and me needing to take a break from my linocut. I leave my ‘Soft Anatomy’ plate sitting on the ledge of my window, and it looked so perfect just floating in the sky with the silhouettes of the trees.
Thought you guys might like this.
Working with this imagery a lot lately. Excited to show you guys what’s in the works!
An example of one of many art cards that will be listed.
Shop will be up in A COUPLE DAYS. I just have one last thing to do before I list items!
I will be selling sets of cards like this, in groups of two and three, they are just the same as drawings I’ll be selling, but mini! I’m trying to appeal to all price ranges. These look very cute in little frames and also come with envelopes so you can give them away as cards as well!
ALSO a progress on my linocut.
This is after a second cutting of the tile. My second colour is a duller grey teal, and this looks terrible at it’s present state. I will be adding the final colour, black, on Monday, at which point it will look SOO much better. These will be up for sale if anyone is interested! ;)
